The Whiting's Journey

January 6, 2013
Today’s first faith moment was better than I could have ever imagined.  Whenever I begin something new, I am always nervous that it will not be well received.  However, both D and K were very responsive to the time together as a family. It was amazing seeing the eagerness and anticipation in their eyes.  What’s best about these moments together is that I can personalize the teaching to whatever they are going through for the day.  This commitment to Family Moments is not easy, but I have no doubt that God is going to use it or His glory.

Shannon’s Tip for Teaching
During the Scripture Memory time, Shannon helped by deliberately messing up the verse, making up a book of the Bible, and confusing the reference.  This kept the kids engaged and challenged their knowledge of the Scripture.  It also gave Daniel a boost, knowing that he “learned” the verse before his daddy!

I have learned that there are ups and downs in doing a family devoted moment. My favorite down time thus far was when I was so prudent in timing that I interrupted my sin's Star Wars game in order to have our Moment.  I fear that one had negative impact. Lesson learned: be consistent in your timing!  :)

Today Kaitlyn, my two year old, sat axiously awaiting our family devotional time.  Finally, she had waited long enough and ran around the house yelling, "It's time for family bebotional!" I took that as a sign that we were making impact.  Even if it seems like your kids aren't listening or that they don't want to be there, keep persevering.  You may know the impact you are making!
